Argues that New York's present laws, making marriage very easy and permitting divorce only for adultery, are causing a decline in morals. The author favors laws more like those in New England, where obtaining a legal marriage is more complicated but divorce is easier. The author also discusses marriage, divorce, and morality in other societies and points out flaws in the Biblical arguments used by some defenders of the current law.
